LOI Day 2009

Letter of Intent Day 2009

It's LOI day,  and for the Cougs, so far it is looking positive.  Last night there were announcments of two new commits, DE Brandon "Bubba" Rankin, a four-star recruit from North Carolina who totaled 23 sacks for his JC last year.  Making grades could be his only hurdle, as he reportedly has some specific  External linkeducation External link needs.

Also committing last night was Terrel Thompson, a MLB from Colorado.  Currently he's not evaluated by the major recruiting services, but perhaps this is more due to his listing as a RB rather than the LB position he'll play for the Cougs.

Earlier this week it was announced that David Gilbertson, Keith Gilbertson's son, will walk-on to WSU to play QB.  This has to be taken as a sign of respect for the coaches and program, as Gilby is no doubt well-connected in the area.

Anyway, happy LOI day, and Go Cougs!

I've been sweating this class since August. Nice haul for CPW and CO.
No doubt. I hope...

this is an indication of what's to come in the future. If Wulff and this staff are as good at recruiting every year as it seems they were this year, we could be looking at something special.

...coming out of the recruiting event in Seatttle. Wulff said that Sarkheisel came after EVERY single one of our in-state commits. Not a single one wavered. I'm sure Wulff did the same last year. It's just impressive that these kids were sold on the program and staff to such a degree that not a single one changed their mind. In fact, I'm amazed that we only had one de-commit the entire recruiting cycle. In the age of soft verbals it's amazing that we maintained such stability among the kids we picked up.

This coming recruiting season is going to be much tougher. Most of the highly ranked kids are on the west side and have a UW connection already. There are five D-I quality kids at Lakes High School alone and the top recruit already has a brother playing football at UW.

It should be interesting to see how this year plays out. Like Wulff said, for true success we need to layer classes like the one we just had.

This has been discussed internally with The Core but I want to reiterate that Wulff needs to OWN the Eastside. Any kids East of the mountains that are D-1 caliber need to be at WSU. Once that is established (and I think Wulff is strong in this area) then we have to pick and choose our kids in the Westside. Wulff had an easier time this year due to UW being so down and sketchy. Sark-ass will be all over every kid and I expect a solid number will commit. The faith I have, though, is that once Wulff and his team identify a player they really want they do not waver on going after him. Plus Wulff understands that the flashy-types are going to WSU generally.

The Lakes recruits are a big area next year. Hopefully it will not be a domino effect to UW.
On that note....

.....Wulff just offered a kid Jake Rodgers out of Shadle Park. We've already got Aaron Dunn committed as well out of Mead. I could not agree more. We need to absolutely shut the east side of the state down. No reason these kids should be going anywhere else. Keep them home.
