Weekly Recruiting Update
Written by EC Rules
Saturday, 19 December 2009 14:46

Paul Wulff and staff just closed out a fantastic week of recruiting. They were able to acquire one and possibly two starters for the offensive line and acquire the commitment of what was the top guy they had on their board at the offensive guard position.

Let's take a look at the guys they locked down:

WSU Rumors Update!

Sterk and Moos are thick as thieves

As discussed in an earlier column….something has been going on in the Athletic Dept that affects the AD. Again, NOTHING READY TO BE ANNOUNCED PUBLICLY/OFFICIALLY but it appears that Moos is close to finalizing a contract with WSU. It does not appear that it is for the AD job because that would eliminate his non-compete with Oregon. However, it does appear that he is going to be stepping in to help in a role that will focus on fundraising for WSU. Best of both worlds as far as all parties are concerned. Moos gets to keep his non-compete and the money that goes along with it and WSU keeps Sterk on his current contract and they benefit from additional thinking from a proven fundraiser in a critical period for the Athletic Department. Again, things could go sideways at the last moment but it appears that Moos and WSU are far down the path of bringing him on in a consultative role. Not a minute too soon if you ask us.

Aaron Dunn's color is Crimson

Expect him to break the news to The Coug fan sites in the next week or two. We've learned that Dunn is set. He's coming to Pullman. Great news for us. He's our highest rated recruit in the class and he further solidifies the stronghold Wulff has developed in Spokane. This staff is about as good as it gets at holding on to current commits. So far over two years we've lost exactly one recruit that committed to us and de-committed. That is as impressive as any number in the country considering we've won three games in that space of time.

Go Cougs!

Cougfan or Cougzone...which do you prefer?

Coug Anthropology 101

Cougfan or Cougzone? What do you prefer?

The Coug blog has had the most bizarre experience the past few days around our "rumors" column and the interesting thing has been the response from the Cougzone community versus the Cougfan community.

When we put the piece together we thought we had over-communicated the nature of the pieces of content. They were not meant to be taken as fact and they were meant to be conversation starters based on "whispers" we'd heard from various people and various connections. Again, the kind of stuff you'd chat about at the bar if you were getting a beer with buddies not the kind of stuff you ask Vince Grippi to confirm for the Spokesman.

In fact, here is the first paragraph of the article:

Here are some tidbits of WSU gossip that we've heard recently. Let me throw out a few caveats. We are not reporters and not reporting this as fact. These are just fun little chunks of content that we are comfortable enough with throwing out there for the sake of conversation. As a collective, this blog is reasonably connected. A few of us cover the Cougs and sit on a couple of WSU Boards of Directors and that gives us a little more access from time to time.

We thought that might set the framework for how we should take these pieces. Here's where it gets really interesting.
