WSU recruiting trendline continues upward under Wulff
Written by OpenToClose
Monday, 24 May 2010 00:00

A good week on the recruiting front for Paul Wulff. The Cougs picked up two commitments over the space of a couple of days and that has brought the Class of 2011 total to five. It really does make you wonder what sort of class this staff would be able to put together if they had more than three wins in two years. Imagine the possibilities if they can put up 4-6 wins this season and Moos greenlights a football only facility.

Let's take a peek at some of the headlines from this week:

What will Moos do with WSU's athletic facilities?
Written by EC Rules

I've had some interesting conversations recently around the first real big decision point that Bill Moos is wrestling with. We covered the notion of Phase III versus facilities upgrades a few weeks back but we thought we would shed a little more light on what we're hearing.

Everyone internally is very excited about the Bill Moos hiring. His first few weeks have pretty much confirmed their perception of the man. He's listening a lot right now and he's expected to unveil his vision for how to shape the department and it's budget in the middle of the Summer. Lots of things are on the table including restructuring groups within the athletic department.

But here's the big bad elephant in the room that he needs to address this Summer that will set the direction of many other smaller issues. What do you do with facilities?

Our Top Five Freshmen for the Fall
Written by OpenToClose
Tuesday, 04 May 2010 15:50

Now that we are past Spring drills it's time to focus on the Summer and Fall. Much has been made of the incoming recruiting class and their ability to possibly help immediately. Particularly prominent has been the wide receiver position as it only has four scholarship players currently. Out of necessity, the new guys are going to have to play next year. In that spirit, we've put together the top five recruits that we need to help immediately. This is not meant to stack rank talent. It's meant to put together the puzzle of the position they play and the need there, the skillset they reportedly bring, and if they are physically ready to handle reps in the Pac-10.

I'm not including Wad Jacobson, David Gonzales, or Brandon Rankin in the list as we've already seen them filter into the roster this Spring.

What did we learn this Spring?

It's a hard thing, making a value judgement on a program as a whole when the offense and defense are playing against each other. Every positive has a negative counterpart on the same team. That's why you hear Paul Wulff talking about things like having good practices overall and the tempo with which people are practicing.

Rather than try to highlight units, let's focus on things that clearly broke through as positive or negatives this Spring and what implications they might have on this Fall.

Moos Calls- What has Bill Moos told us so far?
Written by EC Rules

It's been less than a month since Bill Moos officially took the job and so far he's conducted an interviews with Cougfan External linkand Cougzone External link and an online chat External linkon the school site. Most of it has been a series of general statements that don't really give us much. That's perfectly reasonable for a guy that's been on the job for a few weeks and it's encouraging that he's trying to establish a PR footprint as one of his first orders of business.

Having said that, there are a few nuggets we've been able to surmise based on how he messaging his talk points. Here's our take on what Bill Moos is telling us in the early going. Hit the read more button for more:
